Description
Porcellino – The Uffizi Boar statue replica.
The ancient roman marble copy (2nd-1st century BC.) of the Greek bronze original was found on the Esquiline hill and now is housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
The statue became famous after a 17th century bronze copy made by Pietro Tacca for Cosimo II de Medici what is now placed on the Mercato Nuovo in Florence. This statue is commonlyy called now ‘Porcellino’ or Piglet’.
